Having fun while losing a kid.

Having fun while losing a kid.

There once was a group of girls who loved each other and were committed to each other, babies and allergies and ungraciousness and all. They loved to gather at homes and parks and on this particular day, the library. The kiddos built towers, made their mamas food, read some books, and played/watched computer games. After plenty of talking and laughing (and disciplining and redirecting), one of the extra-hungry-all-the-time moms needed to go nourish herself. She collected her children to her side…and saw a friend who deserved a quick thank-you for the meal she had delivered the night before. Two minutes later (I swear, it was a quick thank-you!), the downstairs librarian came up to the kiddie area. “Does everyone have their children?” This particular mama barely looked for hers since she knew for sure for sure where they were. Except. They weren’t. Well, one wasn’t. All the mamas searched the top floor, found all their precious littles, but no Jaeda was in sight. Her mom raced to the stairs to holler after the librarian, “Was she wearing a pink shirt?!” (Guess I she spaced the whole red hair as an identifying mark.) Suddenly, that little red-haired, pink-shirted girl came marching up the stairs. “Oh, dare my mom,” she said and hugged my leg. I gave a weak laugh and muttered something about always knowing where my children are and being a good mom, no, for real, I promise, and quickly scuttled to hide in the elevator. Pretty sure I didn’t even say goodbye to my girls. Sigh. And they’re giving me a third kid…
