Snowpocalypse 2014

Snowpocalypse 2014

I say if it’s gonna be cold, I want it to snow. Hate to waste all those freezing temps on dead grass and naked trees. But snow–snow makes everything more beautiful. And this snow made our whole town a winter wonderland. Don’t get me wrong; I’ll be ready for spring in a few months. But doesn’t this bout of intense cold make spring even that much more wanted, more welcomed than if it were just spring all year long? We’re definitely a four-seasons family. A little of everything is what gets us excited! Reminds me of what Pastor Larry says (I believe he’s quoting Thomas Watson) about sin and Jesus: “Til sin is bitter, Christ is not sweet.” Once we get to the end of our sin (and our winter;) and truly begin to HATE it, then and only then does Christ’s sacrifice (and new buds) become so beautiful, so what we needed that we could just cry with joy to receive it. Thank you, Jesus!

You know it’s bad when CHURCH is cancelled!

Brrr…20140108_102231

This particular storm made Christmas break almost a week longer for those school kids (why do snow days still excite me so??). We shoveled every two hours for most of the day since shoveling a foot plus of snow all at once could be a little difficult for our shovel backs. And by we, I do mean all of us, thanks, Ben! Well, Corban mostly brushed the snow, and Jaeda danced, oh, and I mostly just took pictures, but theĀ restĀ rest of us worked hard (thanks, James;).

Our Christmas tree was buried a couple times by the heavy snowfall, and I got worried that we’d missed the pickup since literally no one else on our block had a tree out. And then James reminded me: nobody (in town??) gets real trees anymore! I gasped at the sacrilege. And then remembered that I was the one looking for end-of-year fake tree sales, hoping to avoid the mess for next year. Sigh. I guess we’ve succumbed to the modern Christmas. (Although, they were all gone, so we haven’t made a purchase yet–not fully giving up yet!)

It got so cold within the next several days (wind chill down to -45 degrees F!) that even a simple 2-block walk to James & Anne’s house hurt my lungs and made my fingers shift between aching and tingling and bluing. Brrrr. Thankfully, Grammie gave us the movie Cars recently, which helped with the cooped up chaos and gave us all some enjoyable snuggle time. (As a side note: how many times can one three-year-old ask to watch the same movie??? #goingcrazy)DSC_0822 DSC_0825 DSC_0826 DSC_0836 DSC_0840 DSC_0841 DSC_0843 DSC_0844 DSC_0845 DSC_0846 DSC_0847 DSC_0848 DSC_0849 DSC_0851 DSC_0853 DSC_0857 DSC_0860 DSC_0870 DSC_0875
