A dash of Corban with a pinch of Jaeda

A dash of Corban with a pinch of Jaeda

Lots of towns are doing “First Fridays” these days. Ours is no exception.
It’s actually more fun than ya’d think–vendors, in-town business specials, events
like dances and flame-throwers and hayrides, and other stuff perfect for a family evening.131004_0003

I love to play, don’t get me wrong, but boy, do I breathe better when it’s clean.

Corban loves when Annika comes over.
He takes his role as big brother seriously
and reads and plays with her like they were
siblings. It’s really sweet. He’s a great kid.

He’s also started playing differently.
A little more independent, a little more
creative. It’s really fun for me as his mom
to watch his mind at work as he imagines
different scenarios, creates new characters.

You ever heard of Tin-Tin? Me neither.
Apparently, it was an old TV cartoon,
turned into a new animated movie.

A couple mornings ago, Corban woke up early, so I let him sit by me
on the couch while I finished reading. While we sat, I held his head.
I’m not sure if I had glue on my hand or what, but his hair hasn’t gone
back down since! We call him Tin-Tin now. He really doesn’t like it,
but that’s the parent prerogative, am I right? Poor kid keeps trying to
flatten his hair. It’s not working. Somebody quick tell him it looks gross.
That’s the one thing that’s guaranteed to make him like a new thing.

Since he liked Tin-Tin so much and since Jaeda happened to have a Michigan
cheerleader outfit, I dressed them up for our morning music class. I told Corban
he was just pretending to be Tin-Tin, not to worry. We walk into class, and
Corban shouts across the room, “MRS. VOGEL, I’M CORBAN!” Maybe next year…

Yeah, I don’t think he fully appreciated just what a perfect fit that dog was! I named her Snowflake when I was little, but the slight change to Snowy didn’t hurt me too bad. ;)
