When your kids are friends,
you just want to scream
and disco
and jump up and down so fast
nothing but your fingertips are in focus.

When your kids are friends,
you just want to squeeze
and cheese
and giggle at the little sister tag-a-long
they’re sure to love more than you loved yours.

When your kids are friends,
you find yourself studying their faces
looking for pieces of your bestie
in the shape of their mouth
or the curls in their baby hair.

When your kids are friends,
you just want to yell,
“Hang on for the ride of your lives!”
and cheer
and smile
and smile
and smile
as you watch them ride away
and check on each other
in that thoughtful
let-me-push-you-out-of-my-view
sort of way.
