Gospel Journey: VBS Art

Gospel Journey: VBS Art

James and I got to lead the art section of VBS this year at Christ’s Covenant Church. We loved the intentionality of the week in presenting the gospel. Here’s a little peek into the art part.

DAY 1: CREATION

We did this project for the little ones and this project for the big kids. (Sorry, I forgot to take pictures of this one!) Because God created everything, that makes Him KING of everything! These crowns were not for us; they were for Him!

DAY 2: THE FALL

First, they mixed a number of colors to create a beautiful piece of art, just like God did when He created the world.

But when sin entered the world, everything was covered in its blackness. (The kids were mad when I told them to paint over their beautiful creations. Hey, God gets mad at sin, too.)

I allowed them to try to fix this awful situation by covering it with something good (aka white paint). As you can see, it didn’t work.

DAY 3: REDEMPTION

For this project, students were asked to carve their name into their candle with a toothpick. They could add any beautiful designs that they wanted as well. The was only one rule to follow: I had to be able to read their name from across the room. As you can see from the picture, you can barely read it from across the table! (Again, angry kids were a result at this point in the project: “But it says my name–M-A-X–Max! It’s right there!”)

Only once they added red paint and wiped it with a paper towel could I see their names from across the room.

Thank you, Lord, for this beautifully cleansing truth!

DAY 4: RESTORATION

For the last day, we wanted to come back to the fact that God is the KING. He was the King at Creation, He’s the King today, and He will be the King on the glorious day when we get to heaven.

To illustrate His grandeur, we decided to create a mosaic of a…

…crown! It took all the glue in Warsaw, and half the paper in Fort Wayne, but it was an incredibly engaging group project!

God was glorified by the creative presentations of His GOOD NEWS through Bible teaching, singing, art, drama, cooking, and physical activity.

It was a great week about to be celebrated by a weekend of…sleep! Thanks so much to our dear friend Sarah Ashton who lead the entire crew of volunteers and who is traveling this weekend instead of sleeping! ;)

    Simple_Ton crafts.

    Breather + goggles

Get a pair of one or two $ goggles (Dollar Genrel)
and a bag of straight straws and one bendy straw.

For the botom peice, use bendy straw bend the straw to the side. Up must face down. Attach straight strams to bootom (Faceing up) straw. Put bent part in mouth and googles on. A cheap breather.

I only got to see the first day of the play; we were just too busy with the art. I was sooo bummed! :( Don’t forget to pick up your stuff at the children’s check-in station on Sunday!
