We’ll miss you, Papa.

We’ll miss you, Papa.

"Amish Dick"

My Grandpa’s Stories
by Sarah “Sassapoo” Steele

Some people knew my grandpa
For his kindly handiness
Or his laughter or his smile
Or extreme adventure sense.

But the thing that’s blaring loudly
In my mem’ry of my Pops
Is the storytelling sessions
We would get that none could top.

There’s that one about the time
When Injuns gave him quite the chase.
He says he ran so swiftly
On top of water he could race!

Or how about the time
When the piranhas ate his feet?
He never even needed crutches;
Now isn’t that just neat?!

He says he was a hobo
Walking ‘long the railroad tracks.
He only could eat road kill.
I swear! Those were his facts!

You’d think to tell great stories
A grandpa you must be.
But really it’s the heart inside
That crafts it skillfully.

You know those stories Papa told
Were really super great.
But the greatest ones are yet to come
Since he’s crossed the pearly gates.

We love you, Papa!
