And then I found…twenty bucks!
So remember back in college…when you were telling this really awesome story…except nobody else thought it was awesome…so you had to think of some flare…before you lost your whole audience…and the flare (and least in our circles) had to do with money? Remember? I do. And I’d like to tell you a story:
The other day James and I went for a run. It was so nice outside–like spring! Well, we’re running by the lake and see this guy taking pictures of something out there. It was an eagle! (Stop yawning.) He proceeded to show us all the photos he’d taken so far of said eagle and another sweet-looking bird. But we had to keep running. So we’re making our way to Owen’s (to return a Redbox dvd), and then…I found twenty bucks!
And no, I didn’t just say that to keep you entertained. I really did find $20!!! WHOA! See, this is why I always look down. I don’t remember much of the scenery in Argentina or Bolivia or Tennessee, but I sure do know their streets! I usually only find a quarter or so. $20, though; that’s the jackpot!!
Hope you liked my story!

Bball Time Again
I (Sarah) had another fun time at the basketball game fundraiser. This time one of the Colts cheerleaders actually joined us in the game. I’m all, “Pu-leeeease, don’t insult me!” And then. She swished a three!! Man oh man. She was cool after that!
(The photo was one of our many fun “plays”–volleyball! We also played soccer and football…all with that basketball. Great times!
Team Steele Dominates 5K
This is the fist of victory for our triumphant finish of our first 5K together.
James: 3rd 5K. 1st in age group. 6th overall. Time of 19:35.
Sarah: 1st 5K. 3rd in age group. 105th overall.
Time of 27:34.
James: I have loved running these past many months! Way to go, John Ditmer, for encouraging me to run. This 5K I ran much faster than anticipated. However, mile three was rough and if I had much more in my stomach it would be all over the board walk near the finish line. Way to go endorphins to make up for that sick feeling.
Sarah: My first mile was the fastest one I’ve run so far–7:45! It was amazing to me how much faster I ran with so many people around me. And seriously, I contemplated at great lenth (27:34, to be precise) the correlations to our walk with Christ and with each other. James has talked about it a lot since he started running; I think I’m finally feeling it myself! What a cool experience. And placing gets you hooked. At least, competitive people like me! Doing it again next weekend…
The Newest Edition of the Harlem Globetrotters
Friday, November 14th was the annual Leesburg vs. Harrison faculty basketball game. It’s in its third year, and I’ve (Sarah) been priviledged to participate every year. We use it as an opportunity to raise food for Combined Community Services (CCS). Each year it’s gotten bigger than the last. This year we had to move to the middle school because last year was standing room only. I think it has something to do with giving away Jonas Brothers apparel, Cheetah Girls backstage passes, and having pictures taken with real-live (and fully clothed) Colts cheerleaders. Anyways, we always have two quarters of serious ball (no, I’m not big enough to play with the big boys) and two quarters of fun ball. “Fun ball” means we don’t really play basketball. We played soccer and football, stood on people’s shoulders for slam dunks, guarded our own players, and even let the refs play! And James was the faithful fan and sat the entire three hours, watching his lovely baller of a wife. I’ve only included “fun ball” pictures to view–everyone already knows what serious ball looks like. Oh, and btw, 16,000lbs of food and $26,000 were raised to help CCS. WOW!
Vball update.
Volleyball’s been going really well. Loving the “in-charge” part of it!
It’s definitely been an interesting adjustment from college ball. I also never played in elementary, so I have very little experience at this level! It’s just been funny. Things like, one of our girls (b team) will hit the ball, it will head out-of-bounds (on our side, mind you), and the girls will run away from it, screaming “Out! Out!” No, no, ladies, WE hit it out! *laugh* Or the two girls going for the ball…and then the two girls both backing away from it. “Oh I’m sorry. Were you going to get that ball? I didn’t mean to get in your way. Oh, you want me to get it? Oh, no, no, I couldn’t possibly. Go ahead.” Needless to say, the ball frequently makes contact with the dreaded ground. *smile* Anyhoo, we’ll see if we can’t get some photos up here soon…
Sleepless night.
(Sarah) Tossed and turned all night. Funny since I was exhausted all day yesterday. Thought I’d sleep like a baby. Maybe I did…? Anyways, finally got up at 3am. Read a couple books (albeit, short books) of the Bible, prayed, thought–did all the things that normally make me sleepy. Slept for a few minutes before James’ 4:30 bell went off. And to think this on the day that won’t end for a loooong time (first vball tonight–had to be rescheduled from last week).
Bump, set, spike!
Volleyball try-outs have come and gone. The team has been selected (with quite a bit of heartbreak, unfortunately). A skills test has been taken; an entire week of practices over. We’ve got some cheers ready, uniforms ironed, and t-shirts ordered. *sigh* Boy, am I glad for the weekend.
But I tell you what. This is definitely one of those things that I was “meant to do.” Coaching rocks my socks off! We’ve got our first game coming up this Thursday…against our biggest rival (and the girls are well aware of that!). I’m feeling good; we’re gonna look great!
