Art, Hair, and Legos

Art, Hair, and Legos

HELP: I’m noticing that my phone camera pics are mostly blurry, and I’m not sure why. Anyone have any thoughts? iPhone 5c……

When I walked past this cabinet door at the Art Gala this year, I started crying. I can’t really tell you why. The Jeremy Camp song played through my head the whole night as I tried to look at other pieces. At the time of the Art Gala several weeks ago, when I would wake up, it was because a child was pulling on my arm begging for food. I’d wake up and feel already behind. My song was: In the morning, when I rise, give me sleep/peace/quiet/food. But not Jesus. I was determined to win this piece and diligently stalked its bid sheet until the last minute. (Side note: we didn’t lead the kid section this year. Decided to take a year off. BOY, was it nice to enjoy it as grownups this year!) I’ve placed it on my piano while I wait for a hammer to magically attach it to the wall while I’m sleeping. I walk past it all day and ask the Lord for more of Himself in the morning, in the chaos, in the feedings, in the playing, in the running, in the crying, in the sleeping…. Thank you, Erin Cooper, for being inspired to make this piece. I think God had you make it just for me.

I have this condition where I like to put my hair in ponytails. Even, apparently, when it shouldn’t fit. This, my friends, is the world’s teeniest ponytail. I’ve also become a stair master over the last four weeks. Feels great to workout (and not worry about my kids!)! Although a little less great when the guy next to me throws his earbuds down and shouts, “THAT WAS CRAZY!” after his sweat-dripping, high intensity, hour long workout. Then I feel like a pansy.IMG_0430

Since my hair officially isn’t long enough to do anything fun with, I always want to play with Jaeda’s hair. But. She’s afraid of the brush, let alone anything more involved. Somehow I sneaked a little French braid in. So pretty.IMG_0432

We have a good selection of Legos now, thanks to Grandma and Grandpa Steele. But we only had one guy (and it was officially theirs). Thankfully, I found a stash of 10 on eBay…for $4 shipped! They came from China, so we basically waited forever for them to arrive. And they came completely disassembled. At first, I was annoyed, but then I realized what fun we were having putting all their little pieces together. Now Corban can make all our guys fight, and Jaeda can make them all hug and kiss. Oh.my.IMG_0472

Corban and I usually get 30-60 minutes of alone time before the girls wake up. A couple weeks ago, we were coloring during this time, and Corban asked if I could draw him a dinosaur. This was the best I could do:

A while later, he asked again. This time I looked at a picture online and came up with this:IMG_0502

Then, last week, I looked for a tutorial on something with fewer appendages and wound up with this:

And finally, I got brave and put some looseness in my wrist and really surprised myself with this!IMG_0505

You better believe I made James take it to work.

That is so funny about your artwork at James’ desk! And I’m glad Jessica isn’t the only girl obsessed with her duplos and other guy/girl matched dolls hugging and kissing. I just try to play it cool … while freaking out inside (does this preclude terrible teen years? sure hope not …)

Haha! From what I hear, it’s pretty normal and does not necessitate wild years to come hehe. Funny thing about the artwork: I found it in the van a couple weeks later, never having made it into work. Nice try, Mr. Steele; you’ve been caught!

hahaha! This post just cracked me up. I love how random it is, and I love seeing your evolving skills in dinosaur drawing. You’ll be so ready for the Art Gala next year :)
I didn’t know you won that piece of art- so fun! I saw it there! And I love the saying too- I actually have been throwing around ideas in my head for how I want to make a sign with these lyrics so I can hang it right in front of my bed- because I feel you. I rise grumpy in the morning and need a whole lotta Jesus at that hour of day.
Are you working out at Grace?

HA Art Gala dinos. I can see a whole series coming now…

Please do a piece with those lyrics. Surely I’m not the only one in this world who needs the reminder!

I was at Giverny for a month. They charge $18/mo to use just their cardio equipment. Comes with free childcare (what?!) and use of their showers after your workout…while they still watch your kids (WHAT?!). Grace has awful summer hours, ugh. James works early, so I can’t go then, and they close at 6pm, sigh. Wish I could use them though, since it’s free! Boo.
