12 Dec A very happy Thanksgiving (once we got there)
We love to drive through Chicago to get to Wisconsin. Well, James loves to drive. I like to read, and I can read no matter which road we take. We left four hours earlier than usual so that we could get to their house before our usual midnight arrival. Sadly, we still arrived at 11pm! The traffic was horrific and exhausting. We cheered at one point when we made it up to 20mph. It was short lived. Even the kids started to talk about “traffic” and how awful it is. So we took a complaining break and talked about being thankful that we get to be together and that we have a nice van and and and. And then we stopped for dinner and a short store-only detour in Lego Land, the place where all toy dreams come true…to the tune of hundreds of dollars!! We finally arrived and enjoyed our time and our family in that beautiful state. Even got to connect with our dear Epic Birthday Surprise friends, Pat and Molly, for a lovely brunch and brunch, ahem, dessert…sans kids. We were prepared for a doozy of a trip home, so we left at 5:30am Sunday…and had hardly any traffic at all! Made it home early enough to get our Christmas tree (and for me to collapse from that bout with bronchitis…for the rest of the week).
