These two.

These two.

It’s been so refreshing to step into the living room to see Corban and Jaeda playing kindly together. For the most part, they really like each other. But on the days when choosing love is just too hard for them, we’re working on gentle reminders that it is a worthwhile choice. Our moms’ group is reading my all-time favorite parenting book, Don’t Make Me Count to Three, and it has made/is making a huge difference in the way we choose to raise these two. Less “just play nicely!” and more “are you loving your sister when you take her toy?” It takes more time in discipline and training now, but someday we will reap huge benefits from this patience. The Lord is kind enough to give us little glimpses, like when I’m about to intervene and Corban sees my furrowed brow and softens his heart and turns to his sister with repentance, “I’m sorry, Jaeda. Can I have a turn when you’re done?” (Okay, so it may not be often, but I heard that exact phrase at least once!) When he chooses, Corban cares for his sister like a little dad, cutting her food, holding her hand, helping her build, retrieving a lost toy, and more. And Jaeda reciprocates with a “You tan tate a turn, and den I div it bat, Porban.” (Her version of Daniel the Tiger’s You can take a turn, and then I’ll get it back.20140827_192111 IMG_0426

This is their less peaceful side. WOW, a van is an awful place
to be kept a prisoner (said the parents).
