What I did with my Christmas money

What I did with my Christmas money

Welcome to Jaeda’s room!

Just to remind us where we came from:

(Btw, this was before we bought the house.)
I think they call this Apartment Beige.
I should know because we put in 6 years of apartment living!

Now on to Jaeda’s room.
First are a couple overview pics; then I’ll get into what they call the deets.

Some specifics about what’s in there.

Below is the loft side of the French doors leading into Jaeda’s room.
(Jaeda’s side is the yellow above.)
It’ll be our office space in the future (we’re currently sleeping there,
what with middle-of-the-night wakers and all), so I thought this fabric
made a versatile choice. I was inspired by this post to seek an alternative
to a traditional curtain, since we knew we’d never need the curtains open.

Was it more work than just sewing a curtain?
For sure! Cutting SIXTY rectangles (15 per door per side)
required a couple of tv shows. And adhering them to the glass
wasn’t fun either. But. I really like the graphic look, and love
that the wood is still shown, soo…let’s just say I’m glad it’s over.

This is from Jaeda’s room with the loft light on at night.
See how you can kinda see the loft-side pattern through it?
I added a layer of cardstock to help prevent that, but…
it wasn’t all that successful. I’d recommend not using
patterned fabrics if you were going to try this project.

But overall, it blocks quite a bit of light. No more sneaking around in the dark for us!

This is probably my favorite project of the whole room.
It was inspired by this Pinterest find, and I spent over an hour pouring
over these Etsy fabrics. Easy project. Well worth the time for the visual impact!

Bummer that our changing pad covers don’t match,
but I just can’t justify buying new ones!

I think that turquoise fabric is my favorite, but they’re all so great!
A good mixture of modern girlie.

This yellow one was a dress I long loved.
The white one was a sweater that I couldn’t
bear to part with without a purpose.

I plan to spray the bookshelf in the spring. It came with the house, so we might as well use it!

Maybe this color? A fun splash against the yellow wall.

This book was written by…one of my friends!!
It’s got great rhymes and a fun message.
Check it out on Amazon!

 Now here’s a dilemma I’m currently considering.
The curtains.
Does the length of the one on the right make the room feel taller,
or should I trim it like on the left to make it fit the window better?
Or maybe add some of the Etsy fabric to the bottom to bring the room together??
Would appreciate your input!

Our bug mobile. Yes, I’m afraid of spiders. No, I don’t touch it.

The perfect, oh-so-soft, beautiful accessory to this gorgeous room for our gorgeous gal.
A rug hand-crocheted by Grammie!!

And one more time for my wall of love.

I gotta say I have had so.much.fun decorating this room! Several late nights to get all the
painting done, but I told James that I’m tired if I get sleep, and I’m tired if I don’t, so…why not?

I’d say it took a month total of not-really-dedicated-mostly-during-nap time effort.
Just work on it here and there. Or when I could swindle a friend into coming
over and doing excessive amounts of ironing for a project (thanks, Anne! ;)).

Now if I could just get Christmas money every month, I’d start on Corban’s room!

I love this , Sarah. Such a cozy room for such a little cutie…

As far as curtains… Here is my two cents worth… I would pick just one long rod (uni-rod if you will) to go over both windows and place it right under the ceiling and have 2 curtains drop all the way to the floor.
    Take it or leave it:))

Love that idea, Lena! Perhaps when we are ready to purchase new things, curtains will be included; right now, we’re trying hard to use what we have!

Appreciate the feedback, ladies! I just looked through my leftover fabrics, and it looks like I only have enough for trim but not for the back of the bookshelf (which was SUCH a great idea, Cindy!!). May just order some more because I love it so much! :)

I agree, also, Sarah with your mom about the length. I, as well, would add a fabric enhancement and I would suggest the small polka dot on the small right embroidery hoop. It has almost all of your colors in it (I don’t see gray). Also I say go with the blue on the bookshelf and maybe a print on the back board behind each self to add print but your could decoupage one of your etsy fabrics to keep from adding yet another.

I agree with your mom! Looks so good in there!

Go with the length on the left and add a fabric trim. You’ve done a tremendous job!
