Crafting: Picnic Blanket

Crafting: Picnic Blanket

Last week, I hosted my very first home party. You know, Tupperware, Pampered Chef, etc. Only this one was for Thirty-One (a faith-based company celebrating the Proverbs 31 woman in each of us).

One of the dilemmas when hosting a party is all the free products you get because of the purchases your friends made. Dilemma? you say. It’s just so hard to weigh the opportunity cost with all the great products. As I was looking through my list that was at least $100 over what I could get for free, I found myself wondering, “What could I make myself (albeit without the 31 tag)?” And I found myself responding, “The picnic blanket!”

So that’s what I did this weekend. (Once I get an idea in my head, I just can’t find peace until I DO it!)

Here it is!

MATERIALS & COST $9.58

• men’s oxford button-up shirts: FREE from fabric scrap pile at garage sale
• binding for the finished-edge look: $5.33
• vinyl tablecloth for backing: $4.25

I put a triangle on each of the corners to act as pockets for things such as pacifiers, napkins, burp cloths, keys, phones, etc. Genius, no?!

Vinyl tablecloth to make it waterproof on dewy mornings (and again I say, thank you Pinterest!).
And ties from the button hole section of two shirts to wrap it up when it’s not in use.

We’ll use it this morning for the first time! Stories in the Park (Center Park) every Monday 11:00am!
